Open Innovation

Open Innovation 2.0 is a new paradigm based on a Quadruple Helix Model where government, industry, academia and civil participants work together to co-create the future and drive structural changes far beyond the scope of what any one organization or person could do alone. This model encompasses also user-oriented innovation models to take full advantage of ideas' cross-fertilisation leading to experimentation and prototyping in real world setting.
What is Living Lab
- A living lab is a research concept.
- A living lab is a user-centred, open-innovation ecosystem, often operating in a territorial context , integrating concurrent research and innovation processes within a public-private-people partnership.
- The concept is based on a systematic user co-creation approach integrating research and innovation processes.
- These are integrated through the co-creation, exploration, experimentation and evaluation of innovative ideas, scenarios, concepts and related technological artefacts in real life use cases.
- Living lab constitutes an experiential environment, which could be compared to the concept of experiential learning, where users are immersed in a creative social space for designing and experiencing their own future
About Us

Rijeka Innovation Living Lab is a collaborative initiative between academia, the government /public sector, industry and citizens . It is radically interdisciplinary and comprises a set of resources, knowledge, tools, and relationships that will develop over time.
Our key goal is to encourage innovation in services, processes and products, to make life better for citizens and businesses. What makes the Living Lab different is not so much its aims, as its methods. Developing new solutions should always involve users and citizens from the start, and as far as possible should take place in real world contexts.
